Sex Slam!

On Saturday June 13th, the Eugene Poetry Slam will hold its final event of the entire 2014-15 season. The 6th annual Sex Slam welcomes participants to share their favorite original poetry on themes of love, romance, and eroticism. This year we are tickled pink to welcome Dr. Helen Shepard to the stage as our featured performer. This year's show will also feature fantastical burlesque performances by Trudy Bauchery. The rules and formatting for this event are very similar to those of the regular competition -- the major differences being that all work read must fit the theme, costumes/props are allowed, and we ask that our audience be 18 and over only.

This Month's Featured Performers -- Helen Shepard & Trudy Bauchery

DR. HELEN SHEPARD

In addition to working as a clinical sexologist and sexological bodyworker, Dr. Helen Shepard is a stand up comic and proud Eugene native. Helen draws on her experience as a sexuality professional to joke about everybody's favorite pastime, and educate about everything from abortion to anal penetration.

A fierce pleasure advocate, queer in most senses of the word, and hormonally intersex, Helen is also a religious abuse and violent assault survivor. As such, he is passionate about transforming shame and trauma, and radical pleasure seeking. Helen also specializes in explicit education, navigating open relationships, and fucking gender in the sexiest of ways.

You can find her on Facebook under Eugene Sexology, or check out his website. But be warned, just because This American Life advertises a web host doesn't mean it's the right choice for your luddite ass, so have some forgiveness for the work in progress that is EugeneSexology.com.

TRUDY BAUCHERY

Trudy Bauchery produces and performs in risqué variety shows. Striving to bring an innovative flame to the resurgence of renegade vaudeville, she creates original skits, props and costumes. She includes talented performers ranging from tried and true luminaries, bizarre underground treasures and “newbies” with great potential. She assembles an animated cast aimed at tweaking the funny bone and tickling the mind.

Trudy’s charming stage presence brings her characters to life. She creates witty short skits in true vaudeville style, with humorous twists and surprises. She has many characters up her sleeve. She’s a damsel in distress, a discombobulated cowboy, a baby no bigger than a breadbox, a voluptuous lady with removable parts, a seven foot tall egg-laying bird and more. There is always a new creation in the works. Trudy enjoys the challenge of coming up with new acts catered to each show. Find her online atwww.trudybauchery.com

About the EPS:

Every second Saturday October through May, the Eugene Poetry Slam is the place for great local poets, a lively audience, and renowned guest spoken word artists. The night kicks off with an open mic, followed by a featured local poet, a featured national poet, and then moves into the slam itself. 'Slam' is the competitive performance of spoken word poetry. It generally fuses elements of theater with a more traditional literary reading, which makes for riveting and moving performances. The Eugene Poetry Slam is open to all and is judged by volunteers from the audience. Guests can sign up for the open mic, to be a judge, or to compete. Sign up begins at 7:00pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. The competition happens in two rounds and the top three poets win cash prizes and a spot in the Finals in May. Tsunami Books continues to be the perfect home for the Eugene Poetry Slam's special brand of interactive entertainment. The 2013-2014 Eugene Poetry Slam is sponsored by the Lane Arts Council
